NO SURPRISE ACT
YOUR RIGHT TO RECEIVE INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR COST OF CARE
At Morgan Waggoner Counseling, we believe that transparency around the cost of services is an important part of creating a trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Understanding your financial responsibility allows you to make informed decisions about your mental health care.
The No Surprise Act is a federal law designed to provide protections for individuals who do not have health insurance or who choose not to use their insurance benefits for healthcare services. Under this law, eligible individuals have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected costs of their care before services begin.
WHAT IS A GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE?
A Good Faith Estimate provides an estimate of the expected charges for scheduled healthcare services. For psychotherapy services, this may include anticipated session fees based on the services planned at the time the estimate is created. The estimate is based on the information available at the time it is prepared. While every effort is made to provide an accurate estimate, the actual cost of services may vary is the additional services are requested, treatment needs change, or circumstances arise that were not anticipated at the time the estimate was provided.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate if you do not have health insurance coverage, or choose not to submit claims to your insurance plan and instead pay directly for services. Clients using insurance benefits should contact their insurance provider regarding questions about coverage, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and other out-of-pocket expenses.
RIGHTS UNDER THE NO SURPRISE ACT
You have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate before beginning scheduled services. You are encouraged to review your estimate, ask questions, and discuss any concerns about fees before treatment begins. If you receive a bill that is a least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the charges through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. You should keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
QUESTIONS ABOUT FEES OR YOUR ESTIMATE
If you have any questions about counseling fees, payment options, or your estimated cost of care, please contact Morgan Waggoner Counseling before beginning services. Our goal is to provide clear information about the financial aspects of therapy, so that you can feel informed and prepared throughout your counseling experience.
